Exclusive Bargaining Agent with the Provincial Government

Our most substantial accomplishment has been the successful negotiation of a 73% increase in the legal aid tariff. This achievement, secured over three intensive bargaining sessions (2019, 2022, and 2025/26), demonstrates the power of our collective voice.

Advocacy for Legal Aid Lawyers

A.L.L. cultivates strong, professional relationships with key stakeholders—including Legal Aid BC (LABC), Attorney General and Ministry staff, provincial court committees, the Canadian Bar Association BC Branch, and the First Nations Justice Council—to influence policy and administrative decisions and ensure legal aid remains a priority.

Networking and Support

Practicing legal aid can be challenging and isolating. When you join A.L.L., you gain a vital network: you can join committees, attend professional events, and access chats where you can exchange information, receive informal mentoring, and ask questions to colleagues who have navigated similar challenges.

Influence within the Broader Legal Community

The distinguished appointments and honours our members receive profoundly reflect the high caliber of legal talent within A.L.L. Since our formation, our members have achieved significant professional milestones:
  • Four members were appointed as Supreme Court Judges.
  • At least seven members were appointed as Provincial Court Judges.
  • Our members received appointments as Judicial Justices and to the Immigration and Refugee Board.
  • Eight members were elected as Benchers of the Law Society.
  • Seventeen members received the designation of King’s Counsel.

A.L.L. thanks the founders, dedicated volunteers who serve on our committees and Board, and all legal aid lawyers of British Columbia whose consistent support and fees have been essential to our success.
