The Association of Legal Aid Lawyers (A.L.L.) is looking for an Executive Director.
Since its incorporation in 2018, A.L.L. has represented the interests of the 1,000 or so lawyers in British Columbia who do criminal, family, child protection and Immigration legal aid work. Most significantly, it has negotiated increases over that time of more than 45% to the legal aid tariff, along with other enhancements to legal aid.
The Executive Director reports to the Board of A.L.L. through its Chair(s), and is responsible for managing the affairs of the Association, the Board, and the numerous sub committees of the Association.
The position involves regular communication with Legal Aid BC, including through the various Tariff Committees, as well as with government. Support of legal aid lawyers and A.L.L. members is also very important.
The ideal candidate will have most or all of the following attributes:
The position is part time (75 hours per month), and is supported by a part time Administrative Assistant. The salary range is up to $80,000 per year. Employment exclusivity is expected unless otherwise approved by the Board.
This position represents a unique opportunity to contribute to access to justice and legal aid in British Columbia.

- Lawyer preferred, or with experience in a law related environment
- A good understanding of legal aid practice in B.C.
- Experience in running a not for profit (budgeting/dealing with a Board)
- Credibility in the legal community
- Good communication skills
